Bus Rapid Transit Petition

TELL CITY COUNCIL THAT NEW ORLEANIANS NEED BUS RAPID TRANSIT!

Tell the City Council to support bus rapid transit (BRT) for New Orleans! The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) recently submitted a resolution to the New Orleans City Council’s Transportation Committee to pursue BRT for New Orleans. The vote was deferred and the resolution will be reintroduced during a committee meeting in March.

BRT is a high-quality bus transportation system that provides frequent and reliable connections, at a fraction of the cost of rail service. New Orleans is one of only seven major metropolitan cities that does not yet have some form of rapid transit. RTA is proposing a BRT plan that would connect residents in underserved communities, including New Orleans East and Algiers, to job opportunities, healthcare, education, and more. Learn more about the BRT plan on RTA’s website.

The City Council has already delayed the BRT vote once. Another delay, or a ‘no’ vote, could result in New Orleans missing out on nearly a hundred million dollars in federal funding. Tell councilmembers that transit riders can’t wait any longer for fast, reliable, and equitable transportation!
