What Is Happening?
On June 4th, Jefferson Parish Transit will be cutting service on many of its most popular bus routes. These cuts--which include eliminating the E1 Veterans connection to the New Orleans CBD via Canal Street, discontinuing the E6 Metairie Local bus line, and significantly cutting service on many other routes on both the East and West Bank--will cause significant harm to Jefferson Parish residents who rely on the bus to access work, school, and other destinations. While these service reductions would hit hardest for the Parish’s poorest and most vulnerable residents, they will also cause economic harm to the Parish as a whole by cutting access to major retail and employment destinations.
How Can You Help?!
Ride New Orleans (RIDE) is coordinating several volunteer shifts following the implementation of the Jefferson Parish service cuts. These shifts will take place near the most effected transit routes and during peak transit times, in an effort to help riders wayfind and navigate their new routes.
Sign-up for one (or more) of the volunteer wayfinding shifts and RIDE will be in touch with details.
Downtown New Orleans volunteers please meet outside of the Main Library (219 Loyola Avenue) at the start of the shift.
Cemeteries Hub volunteers please meet outside of Morning Call (5101 Canal Blvd.) at the start of the shift.
